23% increase in online giving, says Blackbaud

Blackbaud’s new Index of Online Giving reports that online revenue increased by 23 percent for the three months ending May 2010 as compared to the same period in 2009, with large organizations showing an even larger increase, 28%.

Donordigital’s Nick Allen provided guest analysis of the Index in a report that accompanied the release: “The 23 percent increase, along with additional new data showing that retention of online-acquired donors is almost as good as for mail-acquired donors, provides some good news in a generally dismal fundraising time.”

The data shows how important it is for nonprofits to invest in building their online fundraising program because it can grow much faster than their mail/phone program, even in a poor economy, Nick said. Nonprofits’ online programs acquire higher value donors, attract younger donors, and bring in acquisition gifts that are typically twice as high or more than mail gifts, with a higher lifetime value too.

Post your photo on CARE’s Wall of Mothers

CARE's Wall of MothersThousands of CARE supporters posted photos of their mothers and made gifts in their honor to help CARE work with mothers and families around the world. Then they sent Mom an e-card showing her Wall of Mothers photo. In the developing world, every minute, a mother dies from complications during pregnancy or childbirth. CARE's programs reduce maternal mortality by improving access to quality health care during pregnancy and providing safe delivery services and post-partum care for millions of women. www.wallofmothers.org
